Neo-retro
Bruuns Bazaar opened the summer 2000 collections with an "off" show at the Hôtel d'Evreux. The dynamic, "utilitarian chic" collection features, along with ubiquitous black, white, periwinkle blue, charcoal grey and bottle green there appear bursts of energetic green, sunny yellow and bright pinks and reds, all used in subtle marriages and sometimes transparencies. The silhouette is long, soft and natural. Perfect low-waisted yellow or black leather pants are featured alongside ankle-length skirts and large, enveloping dresses that are gathered and bloused at the hem. Loose, frothy knits are used for camisoles, small sweaters, vests and twin sets. The tops are tied on the sides or else backless, and some feature round mosaic prints. Little dresses and skirts that arrive above the knee are comprised of layers of silk chiffon with flower prints and delicate frills along the seams and bust. Straight, structured jackets are worn fastened up and paired with capri pants. Asymmetrical leather aprons dress up t-shirts and pants. Various necktie-print fabrics or velour are used for jackets with rounded forms, dresses and floaty tops. Details such as drawstrings, straps and Velcro closures adorn elegant but functional pieces, and large leather belts criss-cross around the waist. The collection is both modern and romantic, simultaneously urban and naïve.
