Past, present, future
Bruuns Bazaar likes blending styles, finding inspiration from the past to renew for the future, as well as from the street to energize classical urban styles, and to infuse traditional materials with new technologies and techniques. The menswear collection for summer 2000 is no exception to this rule. For the nostalgic touch, we find extra-long relaxed "beatnik" drawstring pants that are rolled at the waist, Indian tunics and motorcycle jackets. With comfort in mind, there are shirt-jackets, soft, fluid pants either very long or reaching just above the ankle Bermuda shorts and fisherman's blouses. Straight-cut suits constitute the classical note. The pieces are primarily monochromatic - except for some minuscule designs on pants and short coats in classical shades of black, white, kakhi, faded greens and grey-blue, brightened up with cherry red, golden yellow or pale pink. Sporty details include canvas patches at the knees of pants, patch pockets (sometimes more than one) on t-shirts and fisherman's blouses, velcro closures and unusual collar closures on raincoats. The materials are inspired from tradition as much as from modernity; cotton canvas, linen, nylon, metallic threads, and rubberized canvas or oiled cotton treatments. Leather also makes an appearance in the collection, most notably in the colored jackets.
