Carefree on the Riviera
For Carven's summer 2000 collection, designer Edward Achour pays homage to infamous illustrator Kiraz and his depictions of chic Parisiennes on vacation on the Riviera. This summer women are carefree and surrounded by luxury. They stroll along la Promenade des Anglais in combishorts with sparkling jeweled shoulder straps and a low-cut bustier neckline, sometimes covered with a bright green or orange chiffon poncho. For poolside, hooded dresses in airy silk cover a pebble-studded bikini, or else there is a long silk jersey dress inlayed with lace or chiffon. Hooded organza tank tops are paired with iced organza shorts, and silk wraparound blouses with bellowing drawstring sleeves are worn with "chrome" lambskin shorts. Pants and skirts with drawstring waists in transparent silk reveal bikinis covered with sequins or iridescent pebbles. Urban wear includes raffia skirt suits with a fine fringe, sandy suede pareo skirts under sailor's sweaters embroidered with pebbles, silk skirts embroidered with beads in a gradation of colors paired with "iced" lambskin jackets or a pinstriped men's vest rendered more feminine with jeweled shoulder straps, worn over fluid white silk pants. In the evening, our ladies take aperitif on the port of Saint Tropez in painted organza capri pants and a cashmere twin set. For going out on hot, summer nights, a long skirt ensemble with a discreet train and bra top comes in the collection's wide range of shades: periwinkle blue, pink, vanilla, soft green, steel grey, coral, pearl, Indian pink, azure, lavender...
