Mediterranean dream
Mediterranean Dream, the theme of Fausto Donna Rumma's Spring-Summer 99 collection, was illustrated by the decor and the scenography of the show, which abounded with mythological and cultural references. But certain models were more evocative of post-modern Indian squaws, with skirts, pants and pinafore dresses formed from hand-sewn multicolored bands of suede worn with organza blouses and tank tops. In a similar vein, one discovered skirts and dresses made from yellow leather with holes and leather dresses with slits up the front and an opening on the chest held closed by leather macramé discs. Macramé is also used for the shoulder and neck straps on dresses and other decorative details. Pinafore dresses that attached around the neck are made from suede bands, checked silk taffeta with fringe or a spectacular silver rubber material. Trouser or skirt ensembles in dark brown or grey striped cloth with leather appliqués on the chest and hips were another leitmotif. For evening there are seersucker dresses with blue tulle trains and fluted frills on the chest and hips. It all adds up to a gay and sensual collection.
