GOMME - HIROSHIGE MAKI |
An intimate marriage Gomme-Hiroshige Maki blends layers of prints, Prince of Wales checks and an abstract violet chiffon, veils a dress with a grid of lace, creates fabrics with layers of different prints, and blends shades of grey and blue, grey and pink, grey and silver or turquoise and blue in subtle harmonies. He layers dresses and skirts over pants and laces different pieces of clothing together, such as a coat that is attached to the side of a pair of pants. The designer's dresses are slightly twisted at the bottom or feature trompe l'oeil effects with scarf panels which pass through the collar of a dress and tops with large pleats on the front. The result is a clean, simple silhouette which betrays the rigorous and masterful work involved in creating it. Virginie Transon |
