DANIEL HECHTER |
A serene and luminous collection The fashion world was buzzing with anticipation about Grit Seymour's first collection for Daniel Hechter. The young German designer has evolved the brand's style while retaining it's chic yet relaxed spirit. Under the theme "Reflection", the comfortable and elegant Summer 99 collection played on the different meanings of the word. First came the unstructured ensembles in greyed pastels, pearl grey, soft green, blue-grey and cream: long fluid or draped skirts, large pants, sometimes with drawstring waists, highwater pants and short shorts paired with iridescent viscose tops, T-shirts with draped necklines and original shoulder straps and linen-blend soft-structured jackets with slits in the back. Knee-length layered muslin dresses with changing undertones complete this first theme. For urban wear there are wide or straight-legged trouser ensembles worn with ultra soft cardigan jackets, a belted, double-vested coat dress, mini shorts, long bubble dresses with a large pleat in the back and backless bustiers attached just under the shoulders. The sportswear theme included immaculate white hooded sweaters paired with skirts, jackets with or without sleeves, and a charming off the shoulder boatneck top worn with a long pleated skirt. A denim line offers coated cotton parkas in ivory or metallic midnight blue with a wrinkled finish, brut denim calf-length pants and long skirts. A series which complements the "cobalt blue" theme includes bustiers with original cuts in the back paired with irregularly pleated skirts or iridescent straight-legged pants. To protect one from the wind there is a parka in coated cotton with a high collar. For evening, a series of dresses and draped tops in a silvery, iridescent material, layered dresses in jersey netting with a metallic finish, an off the shoulder dress in black and silver dévoré jersey, and finally, a series of pant and skirt ensembles in translucent metallic silver.
