A good composition (undefined)
Working outside of any restrictive parameters dictated by trends and season, Daniel Jasiak presented the most recent one-of-a-kind pieces from his Composition Indéfinie ("Undefined Composition") at the Carrousel du Louvre. Old brocades (as well as modern "stretch" versions), antique kimonos, felt and wool, knits and quilted materials are assembled in poetic patchwork, unusual drapes and pleats and updated asymmetrical forms. The enveloping dresses and "corolla" dresses, defined by well-placed ribbons, translate into a light, ingenious and playful style. The designer wraps, rolls and superpositions his materials on the body, or drapes them from the shoulder in a modern-day toga. He contrasts stripes with masculine checks or immaculate white with deep black, pairs midnight blue with grey or black, and highlights subtle colors such as soft orange and pale green. As usual, the collection is full of dresses, sometimes paired with knitted shawls, tunic tops with skirts, and several models of short, oversized pants. The show was presented to the sounds of "Jolies Mômes", sung by Ferré, a soundtrack which, similar to the collection, aligns French tradition with a more contemporary touch.
