The evolution of fashion
In the Gallery of Evolution at the Natural History Museum, Paco Rabanne presented his vision of the evolution of fashion, with a collection which was at the same time futuristic and faithful to his inimitable and timeless style. Long girls with long, straight, unattached hair (you guessed it) wore dresses and ensembles, most often in a blinding shade of white, and sometimes paired with silver or, more rarely, very pale pastel shades of pink, blue or lavender. Classic, straight and comfortable trouser suits done entirely in white had a rigorous, austere allure. Throughout the collection the bust is hidden under high turtleneck, boatneck or round collars, which are paired with micro-shorts and mini dresses. Paco Rabanne still likes to play with pliers and hammers: alongside leather pierced with rivets there are stapled bands of white leather and various interpretations of sinuous or geometric metal plaques on tops. Still in the architectural vein, one could find a pair of leather pants assembled with a system of laces, a pink tortoise shell dress and asymmetrical jersey tunics and tops that resembled metal armor. After all, it is the last summer before the year 2000.
