S. WAUCHOB |
All rolled up Now firmly established as part of the Parisian fashion scene, English designer Sharon Wauchob nonetheless demonstrates how our British neighbors definitely posses an acute sense of eccentricity. In an old garage in the Bastille district, we had the opportunity to attend the designer's second show; a somewhat gothic collection full of what seems to be disorderly and rolled up assemblages and unusual layering. The body is revealed under poncho-style tops that are open on the sides or back, or through the proliferation of transparency. There are tattered, shredded skirts, unusual bubble effects, raised, constraining, rolled and folded up skirts, skirts with missing panels in the front or back, shoulder-restraining tops... a plethora of avant-garde vestments for those who aren't afraid to be noticed. Next come paint-splattered prints, corsets worn over shirts and pieces in wild animal prints. This universe is very far from that of the Louis Vuitton accessories which Wauchob also designs, but it seemed to please the foreign fashion journalists, generally a group that isn't afraid to make a statement.
